Tales from the US election campaign trail

The United States has elected Republican billionaire, Donald Trump to be its next President. To call him an oompa loompa is offensive to the lovable orange characters from Willy Wonka’s factory who had a clear set of values and social conscience. How damaging the orange cretin’s election will be no one yet knows, but the market reaction is likely just the tip of the iceberg. Backed by a renewed Republican majority in the Senate, he’ll have more power than Obama who struggled with the gridlock against his legislative agenda. There are strong echoes to the Brexit vote, with an elite metropolitan establishment shocked and distraught at the divide that has apparently emerged between them and an overwhelmingly white, marginalised, angry, rural, working class. Atlas Director, Vanessa Pine, was on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania, and looks at the lessons from the US election...
